PRESENT: BIOETHICS

Prof. Jonathan Glover is a British philosopher, Professor Emeritus at King’s College London.

Prof. Glover has made seminal contributions to the theoretical aspects of bioethics. He has multiple milestones in his work that set the research agenda in many topics and in particular in Human Enhancement and Reproductive Ethics. His original research spans diverse topics such as human nature, war and the holocaust, genetic ethics, neuro-ethics, and psychiatric issues. The originality of his thought is marked by the role he plays in shaping the debates others will follow.

Prof. Glover has written several books on ethics, including Humanity: A Moral History of the Twentieth Century, and Causing Death and Saving Lives. He chaired a European Commission Working Party on Assisted Reproduction. He is interested in questions raised by the Human Genome Project. He is currently interested in a number of issues in global ethics and in ethical issues in psychiatry.

Prof. Glover is a fellow of the Hastings Center, an independent bioethics research institution in the United States. He is also a Distinguished Research Fellow at the Oxford Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics.
