HISTORY DAY 2022 – New Ways of Thinking about Black Lives in America
Moderator: Dr. Yael Sternhell | Participants: Prof. Tyrone Freeman and Prof. Kim Welch
A conversation between 2022 Dan David Prize Winners Kim Welch and Tyrone Freeman, moderated by Prof. Yael Sternhell, about their work on modern African-American history and its wider implications in contemporary contexts. The panel looks at the ways in which Black people in the antebellum and Jim Crow eras made legal claims, acquired wealth, and gave generously of their resources to build communities even in the face of extreme racial oppression. History Day panels were held on May 10, 2022 at the Steinhardt Museum of Natural History in Tel Aviv as part of the 2022 Dan David Prize award ceremony events.
