Dan David Prize for 2017 Celebrates Time-Domain Astrophysics

2017dandavidlaureates.jpgThe Dan David Prize, headquartered at Tel Aviv University, annually awards three prizes of US $1 million each to outstanding figures whose work represents remarkable achievement in selected fields within the three time dimensions: past, present, and future. For 2017 the fields are archaeology and natural sciences, literature, and astronomy.

The Dan David Prize is proud to announce that USA astrophysicists Prof. Neil Gehrels and Prof. Shrinivas Kulkarni, and Polish astronomer and astrophysicist Prof. Andrzej Udalski, are the 2017 laureates in the future time dimension in the field of astronomy.

Polish scientist receives major international prize

The prize is awarded annually by the University of Tel Aviv and the Dan David Foundation for innovative and interdisciplinary research. It is accompanied by a USD 1 million grant.

Yehoshua y Kincaid ganan el premio Dan David en Literatura, el Nobel israelí

Abraham B. Yehoshua, "el Faulkner israelí", y la novelista de Antigua, Jamaica Kincaid, son los ganadores del Premio internacional "Dan David" en la categoría de Literatura, anunció hoy el comité seleccionador en la Universidad de Tel Aviv.

La Fundación Dan David proclamó hoy siete galardonados con estos premios, divididos en tres categorías y que se entregarán en una ceremonia el próximo 21 de mayo, confirmó a Efe, Ariel David, hijo del promotor del Premio.

Jamaica Kincaid, Black Jewish Author, Scoops Israeli Cultural Prize

Administered by Tel Aviv University, the Dan David Prize went to Kincaid because she’s “one of the most important and influential writers today,” the awards committee wrote. Previous recipients have included former Vice President Al Gore, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales and filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen.

Tel Aviv/Leipzig (dpa) - Der in Leipzig arbeitende Forscher Svante Pääbo erhält den israelischen Dan-David-Preis. Der schwedische Mediziner und Biologe vom Max-Planck-Institut für evolutionäre Anthropologie werde in der Kategorie Archäologie und Naturwissenschaften/Vergangenheit ausgezeichnet, teilte eine Sprecherin der Preisverleiher am Dienstag in Tel Aviv mit. Pääbo teilt sich den mit rund 930 000 Euro dotierten Preis mit dem Genetiker David Reich von der amerikanischen Harvard-Universität.
